Alicante offers over 300 days of sunshine, affordable green fees and a dozen quality courses within 50 km of the city. Here is everything your group needs to know before booking.
Most European golf destinations force you to choose between quality courses and decent nightlife. Alicante is one of the few places where you genuinely get both. By day your group plays on well-maintained courses with Mediterranean views. By evening you are sitting on a tapas bar terrace in the old town, ten minutes from the apartment.
The climate is the other key factor. Summers are hot but spring and autumn — when most Northern European groups travel — are ideal: temperatures between 18°C and 26°C, almost no rain, and courses that are quieter and cheaper than peak July–August.
There are 14 golf clubs within 50 km of Alicante, with an average green fee of around €62. Below are the five most relevant for a group staying in the city centre.
The most famous course in the area, designed by Severiano Ballesteros. It features an unusual layout of six par 3, six par 4 and six par 5 holes — unique in all of Spain and Portugal. Wide fairways, fast greens and five lakes affecting 12 of the 18 holes. Located at Playa San Juan, roughly 15 minutes by car from the city centre. The beach is right next to the course, so a post-round swim is genuinely on the table.
A well-balanced 18-hole course with five large lakes and generous wide fairways. Set in a residential resort about 20 minutes north of the city. Good facilities including a clubhouse restaurant. Popular with visiting groups and well organised for group bookings.
An 18-hole course of American design and Scottish layout, 33 km from the city. Spectacular views over the Mediterranean. A technically demanding course that rewards precision over power — ideal for groups of mixed ability wanting a real challenge.
Located close to the airport, making it convenient for groups arriving on early flights or departing late. A varied and entertaining layout that works well for both high and low handicaps. Often cited as one of the most enjoyable courses for holiday golfers in the region.
One of the courses closest to the airport and to the city. Designed respecting the natural landscape and indigenous vegetation. A quieter, more relaxed option — good for days when your group wants a round without too much logistical effort.
| Course | Drive from centre | Par | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alicante Golf (Seve) | 15 min | 72 | Iconic experience |
| Golf Bonalba | 20 min | 72 | Groups & resort feel |
| Font del Llop | 30 min | 72 | Views & challenge |
| El Plantío | 20 min | 72 | Airport convenience |
| Alenda Golf | 25 min | 72 | Relaxed day out |
None of the courses above are walkable from the city centre — a car or taxi is needed. For groups of 4 or more, renting a car for the week is the most practical option and usually works out cheaper than daily taxis. The drive to any of the five courses above is straightforward on well-maintained roads.
Book tee times at least 3–5 days in advance in spring and autumn, and 1–2 weeks ahead if travelling in October, which is peak golf tourism season. Most courses accept online booking directly. Platforms such as Leading Courses and GolfNow also aggregate availability across multiple clubs.
All five courses above offer club hire. Prices typically range from €25–€40 per set. Quality varies — if your group is particular about equipment, bringing clubs is worthwhile. Most airlines allow a golf bag as sports equipment for a modest additional fee.
The advantage of staying in the city centre rather than a golf resort is that your evenings are genuinely interesting. Alicante's old town — the Barrio de Santa Cruz — is one of the most atmospheric in southern Spain: narrow whitewashed streets climbing up to the Santa Bárbara Castle, with small bars and restaurants at every turn.
The Explanada de España, Alicante's famous mosaic promenade along the waterfront, is five minutes' walk from Plaza Virgen del Remedio. In the evenings it fills up with locals — a very different experience from a hotel resort bar.
For groups who want a day off from golf, Tabarca Island (45 minutes by boat from the port) is one of the best half-day trips in the region: snorkelling in a marine reserve, grilled fish lunch, and back in the city by evening.
Golf resorts offer convenience — you roll out of bed and onto the first tee. But they tend to be isolated, expensive, and the food and evening options are limited to what the resort provides.
Staying in central Alicante gives your group flexibility: play golf during the day, and in the evenings choose from dozens of restaurants, bars and the beach. For groups of 4–8, a large private apartment also works out significantly cheaper per person than booking multiple hotel rooms at a resort.
Our 145 m² apartment in the city centre sleeps up to 8, with a fully equipped kitchen, large living room and private terrace. 15 minutes from Alicante Golf, 3 minutes from the beach.
