How to Get from Alicante Airport to City Centre (2026 Guide)
Alicante Airport (ALC) is just 11 km from the city centre — one of the closest airports to a Spanish city. You have four realistic options: bus, taxi, private transfer, or car hire. Here is exactly what each costs and when to use it.
Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC) — 11 km from the city centre.
Quick Comparison
| Option | Price | Time | Best for |
| Bus C6 | €4.60 | 25–35 min | Solo travellers, couples |
| Taxi | €25–35 | 15–20 min | Any group, any time |
| Private transfer | €35–50 | 15–20 min | Groups, late arrivals |
| Car hire | From €25/day | 15 min | Exploring the region |
🏠 Local Host Tip: skip the transfer cost altogether
Staying in the centre means the cheap options actually work. The C6 bus stops at Plaza Puerta del Mar, an 8-minute walk from our apartment, so two people arrive from the airport for €9.20 instead of €25–35 in a taxi. Late flight? A taxi to our door is 15–20 minutes and check-in is self-service 24h with a Nuki smart lock. Check dates & book direct — best price guaranteed →
Option 1: Bus C6 — The Cheapest Way
💶 Best value
The C6 bus is operated by TAM and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It departs from the second floor of the arrivals terminal and connects the airport directly with the city centre, stopping at the Renfe train station, Plaza de los Luceros (TRAM connection), and Plaza Puerta del Mar.
- Price: €4.60 single. 10-trip bundle card €8.10 (valid until July 2026)
- Frequency: Every 20 minutes from 6:20am to 10:30pm; hourly overnight
- Journey time: 25–35 minutes
- Payment: Contactless card or bundle card only — no cash accepted
- Departure point: Floor 2, departures level of the terminal
💡 Tip: one bundle card works for the whole group
If you are travelling with friends or family, you can share a single 10-trip bundle card — each validation deducts one trip per passenger. Two people travelling together use two validations from the same card. Much easier than buying individual tickets.
The main stop in the city centre is Plaza de los Luceros, which is roughly a 15-minute walk or a short taxi ride from Plaza Virgen del Remedio. If you are staying in the old town or near the port, this is a very manageable walk with normal luggage.
Option 2: Taxi — The Most Convenient
⚡ Fastest
Taxis operate from a rank directly outside the arrivals terminal. The company at Alicante Airport is Radio Taxi Elche — their vehicles have a distinctive green stripe. No booking required during the day; simply join the queue at the rank.
- Price: €25–35 daytime; €35–50 at night or on public holidays
- Journey time: 15–20 minutes in normal traffic
- Available: 24 hours, no advance booking needed
- Payment: Cash and card accepted in most taxis
⚠️ Watch out: long queues in peak season
In July and August, the taxi queue outside arrivals can reach 30–45 minutes on busy afternoons. If you are arriving in high summer, a pre-booked private transfer is more reliable than waiting at the rank.
Arriving in Alicante and need somewhere to stay?
Alicante Plaza Beach is a 145 m² apartment at Plaza Virgen del Remedio 6 — 15 minutes from the airport by taxi or bus C6. 3 double bedrooms, sleeps up to 8. Perfect for families and groups travelling together. Check availability →
Option 3: Private Transfer — Best for Groups
👥 Best for groups
A private transfer means a driver waits for you in arrivals with your name on a sign, regardless of flight delays. The price is fixed in advance and covers the whole vehicle — which makes it cost-effective for groups of 4 or more splitting the fare.
- Price: €35–50 for a standard vehicle (up to 4 passengers)
- Journey time: 15–20 minutes
- Booking: Must be arranged in advance online
- Advantage: Fixed price, no queuing, driver adjusts for flight delays
Reputable platforms for booking: Welcome Pickups, GetTransfer, or directly through your accommodation provider.
Option 4: Car Hire — Best for Exploring
🚗 Most flexible
All major car hire companies operate from Alicante Airport terminal: Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Centauro, and others. If your trip includes day trips to the Costa Blanca — Benidorm, Tabarca, Elche, Murcia — renting a car makes a lot of sense.
- Price: From approximately €25–40 per day depending on season and vehicle
- Journey time: 15 minutes to city centre
- Parking in the city: ~€2–3 per hour in public car parks
- Important: Book in advance — airport prices are significantly higher for walk-in rentals
🅿️ Parking near Plaza Virgen del Remedio
If you rent a car, the most convenient covered car park for our apartment is Parking Plaza de España (3 minutes on foot), or Parking Puerta del Mar (8 minutes on foot). Both charge around €2–3 per hour or €18–22 for 24 hours.
Is There a Train or Tram from the Airport?
There is currently no direct train or tram service from Alicante Airport to the city centre. A tram extension is planned but not yet operational as of 2026. The C6 bus to Plaza de los Luceros is the closest equivalent — from Luceros you can connect to the TRAM network (lines L1–L5) to reach other parts of the city and the coast.
Which Option is Right for You?
- Travelling solo or as a couple with light luggage: Bus C6 — cheap, frequent and perfectly comfortable.
- Family or group with heavy luggage: Taxi or private transfer — the price splits well and saves effort.
- Arriving late at night or on a public holiday: Pre-book a private transfer — avoids taxi queues and surcharges.
- Planning day trips beyond the city: Car hire from the airport — book in advance for the best rates.
- Golf group with clubs: Private transfer or taxi — luggage space and no public transport stress.
